Masters 2010 – oh yea!

So like every other sport enthused male in the world, if I had a choice I would be glued to the TV the entire week of the Masters. The Maters is by far my favorite sporting event throughout the year. Yea, I am a golf enthus and follow it somewhat religiously throughout the year, but I don’t think that has anything to do with it.

The wifey asked me last week “What is it about the Masters?” and my reply was “What do you mean ‘What is it?’”. Well I completely turned that question around, totally at awe how she didn’t get it, but then i found myself not being able explain it. Its not necessarily the sport, because a lot of non-golfers find themselves equally glued to their set come Sunday when Tiger is one back with two to go. I don’t think its the flowers, because I could really care less about the way the course looks, and I think most guys would agree with me.  Maybe its the history? Most people don’t know how or why this tournament came to life, or the fact that it is such an entity of competitive golf that its only open a few months throughout the year for regular, member play. Really, like 1-2 months; no lie (Check out the wikipedia page). That thing is bred for this tournament, and they wont risk it for anyone. Maybe the laws of supply and demand come into play. The course and its difficulty is such a mirage for your day-to-day golfers that the day dreaming of teeing off in Amen corner simply consumes our work productivity for the entire week. My affinity towards the course, the town and the tournament has risen since I’ve become a southerner. Maybe thats it.

Well the week has come and gone, and I find myself already looking for tickets next year. Maybe I will have a big wig job then and be able to hassle some sales guy to death, making him or her take me “or else”. We’ll see.

In closing, I stumbled across this picture a few weeks ago and actually remembered when my dad got it in the mail back in 2001. I think its talking about Tiger (ya think?), but for me it truly represents the tournament as a whole: a Masterpiece.
